AIDWA condemns the irresponsible and casual statement made by Home Minister Shri. Shinde in the Rajya Sabha today on the Bhandara rape case . The Bhandara rape and murder of three sisters within months after the Delhi gang rape reflects the continuing increase in crimes against women in India.
Home Minister Shri. Shinde has violated the right of the victims to confidentiality as per Section 228A of the Indian Penal Code by disclosing the names and details of the rape victims. This reflects the total insensitivity on the part of the UPA government in understanding the pain and trauma which the victims family is going through. The Home Minister is unable to explain the reasons for the failure of the police in arresting the accused. Initial delay by the police in registering the FIR of the girls going missing on February 14 and further attempt made by local police to term it an accident even after discovering the girls' bodies on February 16 clearly indicate total failure of law and order. Despite the police forming many teams and senior officers being assigned to the case, the culprits are still to be arrested.
We request the Maharashtra Government to take swift action to arrest the rapists and murderers and also punish the irresponsible police officers.
