AIDWA strongly condemns the killing of Comrade Kartik Mandal, who was the editor of a newspaper in Katwa town and member of the zonal committee of the CPI (M) in Bardaman district. It expresses heartfelt condolences to his wife, Minoti Mandal, a dedicated activist of AIDWA, and to all the other family members. On October 6, 2013, Com. Mandal was attacked, and stabbed several times before his ears and nose were chopped off. This gruesome crime yet again highlights the complete breakdown of law and order in the state. AIDWA condemns the continuing authoritarian violation of democratic norms under the TMC government in West Bengal where members of the opposition are being attacked repeatedly, and murders are being committed with impunity.
AIDWA demands immediate arrest of the culprits behind Mandal’s killing. Proper investigation should be conducted, and the guilty should be given stringent punishment. AIDWA will fight to ensure that justice is done to Com. Mandal’s family.
