The shocking case of the harassment and life threatening assault on the Swedish couple, Quentin Jeremy and Marie who were visiting Fatehpur Sikri as part of their private trip to India is strongly condemnable. The couple were stalked for one hour and beaten with sticks in a manner that they sustained fractures and serious internal injuries. It should be noted that Fatehpur Sikri is a busy tourist spot and the lack of the presence of any security has been evident in this incident. The couple had no access to any of the police official or any security while they were escaping the stalkers and trying to safe their life. It is very disturbing that no help was forthcoming for the couple when they were being hounded.
This incident has taken place on a day when the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister is visiting the Taj Mahal and Shahjahan grave is itself highly shocking. The UP government has not responded even several hours after the incident. The lack of security for young couple and especially women in UP exposes the hollow claim of the BJP led state government in UP and the Modi led Central Government of providing safe atmosphere for women. The law and order situation in UP has seriously detroited after the formation of the yogi govt. AIDWA have continuously raising its concern regarding the protection giving to goon by the administration in UP.
AIDWA delegation comprising of S. Punyavathi, Asha Sharma and Kavita Sharma went to Apollo Hospital to visit the couple but were denied access to them.
While expressing its solidarity with the couple, AIDWA demands that the government stop its attempt to cover up the incident and take immediate steps be taken to identify the culprits and registered a case against them. AIDWA also demands that the Yogi Adityanath Government take stringent steps to safeguard the interests of the visitors and vulnerable minorities in the state.
