    Starting from May 10, Israel bombed Gaza for 11 days. At least 256 Palestinians were killed including 66 children and 40 women. Homes, schools, hospitals were destroyed, all amidst a raging pandemic which had already devastated the region. These Israeli hostilities, along with the ones carried out over the past seven decades, backed by the US of course, have done little to hamper the Palestinian dream of freedom from occupation. They have even strengthened the political will of the people of Palestine.

    The AIDWA Bihar state committee holds state-level 'NDA Sarkar se Beti Bachao' convention in Patna today August 19. It was attended by more than 150 women representatives from 11 districts. It was inaugurated by AIDWA General secretary Mariam Dhawale who strongly criticised the Nitish Kumar-led state government for its failure in protecting girls and women and in taking action against criminals involved in serious cases of atrocities. The convention was also addressed by AIDWA vice-president Rampari and AIPWA leader, Meena Tiwari.

     AIDWA, Delhi held a protest against  increasing incidents of sex crimes on girls in "shelter homes". Recent happenings in Muzaffarpur and Deoria are indeed horrifying.

    Scores of women marched from VPHouse right up to the entrance of Parliament House. Outraged women shouted slogans asking for resignations of Nitish and Yogi governments who have let loose their cronies and dare not bring them to justice. They also demanded " Modi sarkar gaddi chhodo" on the eve of of Aug 9 - Quit India Day because Modi"s Beti Bachao slogan has been a mere "jumla".

    When Rape Becomes A Weapon Against Tribal Women

    The National Human Rights Commission is to be congratulated for taking the first step, even though much delayed, to bring justice to tribal women in the Bastar region of Chattisgarh. Its interim report confirms, through its independent investigation carried out in March 2016, the horrific gang-rapes, rapes, sexual assault and separately, physical assault, by security forces on 16 tribal women in different incidents in the Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh.
