We strongly condemn the atrocious public statement made by the BJP UP President about Ms. Mayawati a dalit women leader from UP and also a Member of Parliament. The statement exposes the BJP's hypocrisy of the BJP Government in coming up with various slogans schemes and policies for empowering women. It shows that their ideological position is invaded in the worst form of retrograde anti women world view.

AIDWA stands in solidarity with Pakistan’s women who reacted strongly to the statement made by Pakistan clergy “Beat wives lightly” as a violation of fundamental right of women. We also condemn similar derogatory remarks by people holding public offices in India. We protested when the WCD Minister made such remark in context of marital rape not being applied in Indian families. We also protested against attack on Section 498A which criminalises domestic violence. Indian women today are experiencing similar situation in the country.

AIDWA welcomes the amendment passed in the Rajya Sabha to the President’s Address regarding the rights of all citizens to contest Panchayat Elections. This reiterates AIDWA’s position that an Amendment prescribing minimum educational qualifications to contest the Panchayati Raj institutions affected the most marginalized and poor sections of the society including Dalits and women.
