The All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) strongly condemns the hike in the price of gas cylinders and the imposition of special excise duty on petrol and diesel by the BJP central government. A Rs 50 hike has been announced for all the categories of gas cylinders, general as well as subsidized. This hike and the special excise duty on petrol and diesel will have a serious impact on the household budgets of all families reeling under the twin assault of unemployment and inflation.
Already the repeated rise in cost of LPG cylinders, unbearable levels of inflation and rising food prices, and massive unemployment have made it extremely difficult for women to keep the home fires burning. This latest rise shows the deeply condemnable insensitivity and callousness of the Modi-led BJP-RSS regime. These hikes will cause further impoverishment and crisis in their lives.
The AIDWA demands that the government immediately withdraw the hike in prices and will hold protests all over the country against this anti-people decision of the central government.
