The All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) strongly condemns the murderous assault on their national joint secretary and Tripura state secretary,Jharna Das Baidya, MP Rajya Sabha on January 17 by a gang of 30 BJP hoodlums in Agartala. These hoodlums followed her on motorbikes when she was returning home, threatening and abusing her. They were armed withlathis, hockey sticks, iron rods, etc. These goons barged into her house and ransacked it destroying the property. They stole cash and other valuables from the house. Her personal bodyguard was seriously injured and had to be hospitalised.
Jharnareached the offices of the Left movement when she learnt that they were being attacked by the BJP goons. She tried to help in rescuing the activists who were victims of this murderous assault. The goons then started chasing her with murderous intent. AIDWA denounces the negligence of the police who failed in their duty to protect the peoplein Tripura.
AIDWA demands immediate arrests of all the culprits and strict action against police officials for dereliction of duty. Jharna Das Baidya must be given protection and the Tripura state government must compensate for the property destroyed.
