  • AIDWA Welcomes Sc Judgement On Decriminalisation Of IPC 377

    AIDWA welcomes the historic and path breaking Supreme Court judgment in the Navtej Singh Johar case which decriminalizes consensual sex between adults in the LGBTQ community and amongst others. This judgment in effect legally recognizes homosexuality and whittles down a 158-year-old colonial law which led to immense suffering and discrimination against the LGBTQ community. Section 377 in the Indian Penal Code referred to unnatural offences and punished“carnal intercourse against the order of nature” with any man, woman or animal, with ten years of imprisonment.

Crimes against women and children have increased by 34% in the last four years.

    The All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA), with a membership 1.12 crore women in 23 states, expresses its serious concern about the spate of rising hate crimes and violence, fear, unemployment, and hunger. It pledges that the women are not going to stay quiet anymore and in order to express their anger, it is holding a National Women’s Protest Rally in Delhi on 4 September 2018.  The Rally will begin at Mandi House at 11 am and culminate in a public meeting at Parliament Street.
