AIDWA strongly condemns a heinous incident of so-called ‘honour killing’ which took place recently in village Eruar, under Bhatar Thana, district Burdwan, in West Bengal. Mousumi Shah (17) and ShambhuBagdi, an agricultural labourer in the village, had been in love for some time and in the face of opposition to their marriage from Mousumi’s family, left the village together a few days back and took shelter in the house of a relative in the neighbouring village of Pichkuri under Ausgram Thana.

  • ON THE APEX COURT’S VERDICT REGARDING S 377 IPC
    11 Dec 2013

AIDWA is deeply disappointed at today’s Supreme Court judgment which upholds Section 377 of the IPC. It is shocking that inspite of the Union of India (along with the petitioners) arguing in favour of a reading down of S377, the SC has upheld this draconian and discriminatory section that illegalized same sex relations and other forms of consensual sex. The section is also in contradiction with the recently amended rape and sexual laws.

  • AIDWA condemns the sexist remarks made by CBI Director Shri Ranjit Sinha, in equating betting with rapes and stating that if rapes cannot be stopped
    15 Nov 2013

AIDWA condemns the sexist remarks made by CBI Director Shri Ranjit Sinha, in equating betting with rapes and stating that if rapes cannot be stopped, women should enjoy them. These remarks are extremely insulting to the women of India apart from being derogatory to women. Mr. Sinha trivializes the severity and rampancy of violence against women, and demonstrates the insensitivity and the lack of sympathy of the head of the highest investigative authority in our country to such crimes of violence.
