Demand to stop discrimination against women Kabaddi Teams in World Cup.

06 Jul 2015
Letter to Chief Minister Demanding to stop discrimination against women Kabaddi Teams in World Cup and to draw your attention towards a gender based discrimination going on against the women kabaddi teams standing 1st and 2nd in the World Cup organised by Punjab state Govt.
Demand to stop discrimination against women Kabaddi Teams in World Cup.

To,

Shri Prakash Singh Badal,

Hon’ble Chief Minister,

Punjab.

Sub: Demand to stop discrimination against women Kabaddi Teams in World Cup.

Dear Sir,
I want to draw your attention towards a gender based discrimination going on against the women kabaddi teams standing 1st and 2nd in the World Cup organised by Punjab state Govt. They are organising this event annually and the prize money given to winner men and women team is discriminatory .Last year it happend in the presence of Union Home minister and sports minister. Punjab Chief Minister , deputy CM and sports department being organisers all were present there including another Centre minister Ms Harsimarat Kaur.

This time again there is a press release by the Deputy CM Sukhbir singh Badal covered in The Tribune and other news papers announcing that the sixth Kabaddi World Cup will be organised from November 15 to 28 at14 stadiums in the state. He said the cash prize for women category winners would be Rs. 1.5 crore and for runners up Rs. 75 lacs where as for men's winner team it would be Rs.2 crore followed by Rs. 1 crore to runner up.

Sir ,if the state itself would indulge in such glaring discrimination against women then with what face it will ask the people to treat boys and girls on equal footing in all spheres of life. This conduct exposes the serious lack of actual will at the level of the political forces at the top at a time when much laudable slogans of BETI BACHAO BETI PADHAO were being given with too much of fan fare.
I strongly object to this clear cut violation of the basic concept of equality envisaged in the Constitution of our country. This highly discriminatory treatment is meted out by non other than the state and its ruling political establishment. It should be stopped immediately and the accountability should be fixed and those responsible for it must publically apologise and the government sports department must issue a fresh announcement with a provision for equal amount of monetary prizes for the men and women teams.
