The All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) strongly condemns the brutal violence unleashed by the Sikar police on August 28 when the students were protesting against the rigging of the Women’s College elections results at the district collector’s office. The police did not spare even the girl students. The men police manhandled the girl students against all administrative norms. It is illegal for male police to be used against women protesters.
Led by the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), they were demanding a recounting of the votes polled in the Women’s College. The district administration insensitively rejected their demand. The police then started inhuman lathi charge on the students injuring many of them. Some of the students have got serious fractures.
The students tried to save themselves by hiding in nearby shops and Dhaka Bhavan. But the police dragged them out and beat them violently. AIDWA demands immediate strict action against the concerned police officers responsible for the brutal violence and manhandling of the girl students. AIDWA also demands withdrawal of all the cases filed against the protesting students. AIDWA will hold protests all over the country jointly with SFI against the repression let loose by Sikar police.
