The All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) strongly condemns the barbaric police action unleashed in a number of university campuses where spontaneous peaceful protests of teachers and students have been going on first against unwarranted fee hikes and more recently against the unconstitutional Citizenship Amendment Act enacted by BJP through its brute majority in the Parliament. After the open violence resorted to by the police against peaceful agitations by students and teachers at Jawaharlal Nehru University and Delhi University and brutalities perpetrated on students in Assam, the unauthorized entry of the police into the campus of Jamia Milia Islamia yesterday, their unprovoked use of lathis, teargas and bullets even within the precincts of the library and the indiscriminate assaults on students, including girls, which left many of them severely injured, are but another example of the fascistic force state violence has acquired under the Modi regime. We also condemn as being of the same stamp the police raid within Aligarh Muslim University last nightin which students were forcibly made to leave their hostels, were herded off in buses and early vacations were announced to ensure that they are prevented from any activities inside campus.
AIDWA expresses its solidarity with all the students and teachers courageously standingup against the terror let loose on the campuses to ensure the predatory demolition of the secular anddemocratic rights inscribed in our Constitution. We call upon all citizens to oppose the undeclared emergency on university campuses and to unite to defend and uphold the basic character of the nation which is under attack from forces of mindless authoritarianism.
