The All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) strongly denounces the decision of the Modi-led BJP government to impose a hike in the price of LPG cylinders by Rs 50. It is significant that the BJP government has hiked the price immediately after the voting was over in the three North Eastern states.
Women already cannot afford cooking gas cylinders as their price ranges from Rs 900 to Rs 1200. These exorbitant prices have forced 56.5 per cent consumers to use only 4 or less refills against the minimum required annual average of 7+ cylinders, and against an entitlement of 12 cylinders per year.
The massive increase of Rs 350 in commercial LPG cylinder prices will lead to a hike in the input costs for all processed food products fuelling further price rise.
Already the repeated rise in cost of LPG cylinders, unbearable levels of inflation and rising food prices, and massive unemployment have made it extremely difficult for women to keep the home fires burning. This latest rise shows the deeply condemnable insensitivity and callousness of the Modi-led BJP-RSS regime.
AIDWA demands the immediate roll back of this unjust price hike and calls for strong protests all over the country against this assault on women’s lives by the Modi government.
