A National Women’s Rally of the All India Democratic Women’s Association was held on 5th October 2023, at Jantar Mantar. Thousands of Women from 25 states arrived in the capital after a three-month nation-wide campaign to expose the anti-women and anti-people policies of the BJP-RSS regime. The rally was convened to highlight the attack on women’s rights and the weakening of the democratic, secular ethos of the country. Women assembled to campaign against the central government at different locations in the national capital before the public meeting, which was held at Jantar Mantar.
The meeting was presided by P.K. Sreemathi, President, and was addressed by Mariam Dhawale, General Secretary, Subhashini Ali, Vice-President, Kannika Ghosh, West Bengal State Secretary, Ramani Debbarma, Tripura State President and C. S. Sujatha, Kerala State Secretary. The public meeting was greeted by national leaderships of CITU, AIKS, AIAWU, DYFI, SFI and other organisations.
The speakers highlighted the draconian and authoritarian character of the present BJP-RSS government, and also called for stopping the attack on independent media like Newsclick. The meeting demanded the immediate release of the Newsclick journalists who have been arrested under UAPA by this fascistic government. It also called upon women to mobilise millions against the BJP-RSS regime.
The enthusiasm and militancy of the women gathered from across the country served as a warning to the Modi government, that people are tired of their pro-corporate, anti-women and communal actions. Women resolutely reaffirmed their commitment to foil the sinister plan of the Narendra Modi-Amit Shah duo to divide women along communal lines and unitedly defeat their politics of hatred. Through this massive mobilization of women, the AIDWA calls upon all democratic citizens to oust this anti-people Modi government in 2024, in the larger national interest.
