A joint delegation of the All India Women’s Association (AIDWA) and National Federation of Indian Women (NFIW) met the National Commission of Women (NCW) and submitted a memorandum expressing grave concern over outrageous acts of violence on women in general and a most heinous episode of attack on Santana Mandal a 35 year old dalit agriculture woman by Trinamool Congress (TMC) goons in Hooghly district of West Bengal. The AIDWA delegation comprising of Jagmati Sangwan, general secretary; Annie Raja, general secretary NFIW; Sudha Sundararaman and Maimoona Mollah both AIDWA met Ms Shamina Shafique ,member NCW and in charge of West Bengal and apprised her of the gravity of the crime involving slashing of left breast of the victim which was a most savage act. It demanded immediate effective intervention for providing justice to Santana.

The delegation has conveyed their deep anger over the culprits not being arrested in- spite of being identified by Santana who has shown exemplary courage in naming the culprits who happen to be TMC goons. The police were acting as silent spectators in all such cases of political attacks on women in West Bengal who try to exercise their fundamental rights. In such grave situation security and dignity of women was under constant threat.

The delegation also reminded the NCW of a memorandum seeking justice in the rape case of Bhagana village of Haryana which was submitted on 30 April.

Jagmati Sangwan told that a joint delegation of both organisations will meet the Election Commission on Tuesday lodging protest over large scale violence on the electorate in general and unleashing terror against women by the TMC during polling in West Bengal.
