AIDWA strongly condemn the statement issued by NCW chairperson Ms Kumaramangalam in which she advocated to legalize the prostitution. It is to be noted that Ms Kumaramangalam also stated in her statement that she would put this matter in upcoming high level committee of cabinet. Apart from other grounds she very shamefully stressed her point that in prostitution large number of employment is possible for women. This is very anti women understanding. Women never go for prostitution willingly but only in the case of absence of alternative employment they are forced towards this in very adverse conditions. In this humiliating and inhuman business a big number is of adolescent girls and boys and also of innocent children who do not even express their liking or disliking. It would become nearly impossible to bring the women out of their situation who are being forced in this if the NCW chairperson has this understanding.
AIDWA understands that although there are women doing this inhuman business even after their unwillingness and they are facing many problems of health, child care, their oppression by the persons who threw them in this business etc, and there is a need for a detailed consultation with organizations working in the concerned section. Instead of this consultation issuing this type of statement is very undemocratic. AIDWA will strongly oppose this type of understanding by all possible democratic ways.
