The statement made by self styled yoga guru Baba Ramdev at a Press meet in Lucknow on April 25th 2014 that Mr. Gandhi goes to Dalit houses for “honeymoon and picnic” (sic) exhibits an outrageously anti women, anti dalit mindset that cannot be tolerated in a democratic society. AIDWA strongly condemns this shameful comment that demeans and insults women and dalits in our country. The justification offered by some leaders of the BJP that Ramdev is a saint, and his comments should not be misconstrued is shocking, and only adds injury to the insult.
AIDWA demands that Ramdev should be prosecuted under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities Act) The Election Commission should take suo moto notice of the objectionable remarks and take appropriate action immediately.
AIDWA will meet the Election Commission, along with other women’s organizations, asking for its effective intervention. It calls on its state units to hold demonstrations against the insulting remarks made by the so called Baba, and urges all democratic forces to extend support.
