Stop terror tactics; ensure peaceful elections in West Bengal

AIDWA strongly condemns the terror tactics being adopted by the TMC in W. Bengal, to suppress opposition voices and derail the democratic process by unleashing violence on those filing nominations to the upcoming panchayat elections in the state. The brutal attacks on CPI(M) leaders, workers, supporters and every other voice of dissent in the past few days has transformed the state into a veritable battlefield. Every day, there are instances of violence against Left activists, which are being resolutely combated at the ground level. AIDWA women are playing a courageous role in building up such resistance.

On June 12th 2023, the TMC goons have brazenly attacked the CPI(M) party office located in North 24 Parganas, with the police turning a blind eye to the bloody assault. One of the AIDWA CEC members, and assistant secretary of W. Bengal state, Soma Chakraborty Das, has been grievously injured, with blood streaming from her head wound. DYFI leader Rana Roy has had his arm broken. Many instances of assaults on those going for nominations to the panchayat elections are being reported from other districts as well.

We condemn all such atrocities being committed by the TMC. The Election Commission must take note of the serious incidents and take steps to ensure a peaceful election. AIDWA will fight tooth and nail for justice, and to safeguard the democratic rights of the people of W. Bengal.

We call on AIDWA units across the country to raise their voice in solidarity with our fighting comrades of West Bengal.
