AIDWA unequivocally condemns the vindictive attack on the elected student office bearers of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) by the administration. We have reasons to believe that these actions have been carried out under the direct instructions of the Central Government.
This crackdown comes at a time when the students of JNU were preparing for a major movement against the staying of UGC notification of (promotion of equity in HEIs) regulations 2026.
In a blatant authoritarian act, the university administration has taken the unprecedented step of issuing rustication and out of bounds orders for two semesters for four elected union leaders—President Aditi Mishra, Vice President K. Gopika Babu, General Secretary Sunil Jatav, and Assistant Secretary Danish Ali—along with former President Nitish Kumar,
The intention is clearly to stifle any form of protest or dissenting voice in the campus.
These punitive orders have been issued for organising a peaceful protest against the surveillance system in the Dr BR Ambedkar central library.
This incident is part of the undemocratic approach of Central Government to control all intellectual institutions and strangulate all dissents. The Modi govt wants to dominate these educational centers to regulate and manipulate the minds of the youth through the dictates and ideologies of the RSS.
AIDWA expresses its firm solidarity with the students of JNU in their struggle for democratic rights. We call upon all democratic-minded people across the country to raise their voices against this vindictive administrative overreach and to stand in support of the JNU student community.
