The AIDWA calls for the immediate suspension of Dr. R.K Pachauri, Director General of TERI, who has been accused of sexually harassing a young woman colleague. We believe that simply proceeding on voluntary leave is not an adequate response, given the serious nature of the allegation.
It is indeed shocking that a person in such a senior position in a very reputed organisation has been accused of sexual harassment at the workplace, indicating the vulnerability of women and the challenges they face at the work place.
We are also concerned that the courts have promptly given bail to the accused; by taking such a lenient view, they are in fact downgrading the seriousness of a problem that is invisible but quite rampant in our country.
