Women And Work

  • Solidarity with Survivors of Sexual Harassment at Workplace
Solidarity with Survivors of Sexual Harassment at Workplace
    13 Oct 2018

AIDWA expresses its deep outrage over the sexual abuse and trauma that a number of women in the field of media have suffered. Some of them have broken their silence recently and come out with shocking complaints of sexual harassment and assault against leading media personalities. It salutes the brave women who have come forth to challenge the prevailing patriarchal norms which indict the victim rather than the perpetrator in such cases.

What Four Years of Modi Rule Mean for Women -The Worst of Times: 2014-2018
    12 Jul 2018

In Hindu mythology, there is a monster called Bhasmasura. Whatever he touches is immediately reduced to cinder. But who could have thought that we would find such a Bhasmasura in the prime ministerial position today in India? During the four years while this prime minister has been in office, not only has he broken all the promises that he had made through his massive pre-electoral media campaign, but he has destroyed whatever he has touched.

Gauri Lankesh Could Not Be Jailed. But She Could Be Killed
    06 Sep 2017

The cowardly, brutal killing of Gauri Lankesh has led to waves of spontaneous protests in different corners of India. Gauri was a voice of honesty and courage, she challenged the status quo in multiple ways as a single woman, as the editor of a weekly, as an anti-establishment voice, as the proud promoter and practitioner of Kannadiga language and cultures, as a  vociferous opponent of Hindutva ideologies.

    From outrage to empowerment
    26 Dec 2012

One thought, one hoped, it would not happen in this case but most unfortunately, it did. In all the outrage, the outpouring of horror, grief and anger, that devastating but familiar comment was made. A policeman standing near one of the many groups of those protesting against the brutal assault on a young woman in a bus in Delhi was heard saying: “She must have been doing something with her boyfriend that got those young men excited.”

Work Participation Rates and women’s status- new inequities, new equations
    20 Oct 2009

Resurgent India is facing many anomalies. For instance, the economic growth curve, somewhat affected by the global meltdown, is now expected to get back on track and move upwards again, beyond the 9% high of 2008. This has not, however, improved our HDI ranking. This year’s UN HDR Report places us at 134 out of 182 countries.

AIDWA Welcomes Introduction of Pro-Women Legislation by UPA Govt
    04 Sep 2005
THE current session of parliament has witnessed the introduction of many bills of specific relevance to women. While welcoming the fact that the UPA government has paid at least partial heed to the pro-poor promises made in the National Common Minimum Programme (CMP), it should be noted that this was done with active prompting from the Left and the sustained intervention of democratic organisations like the AIDWA. But there is still a long way to go.
