  • Women’s Organisation Stand In Solidarity With Dr Rosina Nasir

    We, the undersigned national women’s organisations strongly condemn and express serious concern at the continuous discrimination and harassment of Dr Rosina Nasir, Assistant Professor, Centre for Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy (CSSEIP) since the last three years by the JNU Vice Chancellor and administration. This continued harassment is a result of the targeting which is gender and religion based as evidenced in multiple forms of continued discrimination.

    In her budget speech the Finance Minister quoted Swami Vivekananda to state “There is no chance for the welfare of the world unless the condition of women is improved. It is not possible for a bird to fly on one wing”. She boasts that her government has provided adequate opportunities for women to develop and provide livelihood opportunities. However this statement of the Finance Minister, is hollow and full of half-truths if it is seen in the context of the current ground realities.

    The All India Democratic Women’s Association expresses heartfelt condolences on the sad demise of Primila Loomba, one of the veteran leaders of the women’s movement in India. She was 94 years old, born on December 24, 1924.
    Primila Loomba, fondly called as Pimmi studied in Lahore and graduated from Kinnaird College. She and her friends were drawn to the progressive students union which was active in the anti-imperialist struggle.Her family migrated to India after partition. She joined the Communist Party in Delhi.

    The All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) welcomes the judgement of the Pathankot sessions court which has convicted three main accused of rape and murder of a minor girl inKathua, Jammu and Kashmir on January 10, 2018 to life imprisonment. Sanji Ram, one of the main convicted is the priest of the temple where the crime took place. He has been supported by the Hindu EktaManch which has the backing of the BJP in Jammu and Kashmir.

    All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) expresses deep anguish and is outraged by the horrifying murder and brutalization of a three year old girl child in Tappal in Aligarh. The ghastly crime committed over a paltry sum of Rs.10,000 presents a frightening picture of brutal violence becoming a norm to settle disputes in our country. The child went missing on May 30th, and her body was found on June 2nd in a garbage dump near her house. The delay in locating the missing child by the police is highly condemnable.

    AIDWA strongly condemns the stand taken by Dr. Santanu Sen, President, Indian Medical Association, seeking 'comprehensive review, repeal and re-conception' of PCPNDT Act and deplores the fact that the President and the General Secretary of the highest medical body in India considers it a 'harassment' for doctors to maintain transparency of their practice by complying with the rules and regulations of the Act.

  • AIDWA DEMANDS JUSTICE FOR THE SUPREME COURT EX-EMPLOYEE

    The All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) is deeply disturbed by the manner in which the “In-House Committee” of the Supreme Court found “no substance” in the allegations of Sexual Harassment made by an ex-employee of the Supreme Court. The ex-employee had made a long complaint of 28 pages on Affidavit supported by documents and a video of how she had been sexually harassed by the CJI in October 2018 and the victimization faced by her and her husband and brother-in-law thereafter.

    AIDWA notes with deep anguish the situation arising from the charge of sexual harassment brought against the Chief Justice of India and the manner in which the Supreme Court has responded to it. Irrespective of whether the case is false or not, the procedures of dealing with a case of sexual harassment, particularly when it concerns someone in a high public position, need to be credible and transparent, which has not happened here.
