    The All India Democratic Women’s Association rejects the budget of 2013-14 presented by the UPA II government. Coming at the threshold of economic crisis, rising unemployment, fall in real wages and rising instances of violence amongst women, the budget proposals show that the government is not serious about solving the basic problems confronting the women today.

    AIDWA and NFIW strongly condemn the diktat of the grand Mufti of J&K issued on 3rd Feb 2013 banning the All Girls Rock Band of Kashmir saying singing is un-Islamic. We assert that women’s Constitutional rights cannot be restricted by patriarchal and conservative mind sets operating in the name of religion, especially a religion which places women in high esteem.

    AIDWA welcomes the verdict of the Supreme Court in the Suryanelli case. The Kerala State unit of AIDWA has been involved with the case from the very beginning. Unfortunately, the UDF Govt. behaved in a rather partisan manner which was responsible for the fact that of the 40 accused, only one was sentenced.

    AIDWA welcomes the Verma Committee recommendations submitted to the Govt on Jan 23rd 2013, and calls upon the Government to accept and implement the recommendations without any delay. The report is comprehensive, and has pointed to the failure of governance as the root cause of crimes against women. The Committee has made wide ranging suggestions including proposals to tackle the multiple sources of discrimination and inequality affecting women.

In the first, the District Judge of Gonda has been accused by two women, one a minor, of molestation in his chamber when they were called by him to speak about their having been abducted.
