  • AIDWA condemns BJP leaders justification of sexual crimes on women.
    05 Jan 2013

AIDWA is deeply shocked by the series of atrocious statements being made by BJP leaders, who are justifying sexual crimes against women by blaming them for becoming victims of assault, rather than focusing on the perpetrators!

  • AIDWA condemns the statement made by the RSS Supremo Mohan Bhagwat
    04 Jan 2013

AIDWA condemns the statement made by the RSS Supremo Mohan Bhagwat, reported in some leading newspapers on 4.1.13 that rape is prevalent mainly in cities where Indians are deeply influenced by western values, and not by rural India. The reported comment that such crimes hardly occur in “bharat” - exposes a total disconnect with women’s experience across India, and the extent of sexual violence and assault being suffered by women in rural India.

  • Do Not Permit Use Of Injectable Contraceptives In Public Health System
    19 Nov 2010

AIDWA expresses deep concern about the Health Ministry’s reported proposal to allow introduction of injectable contraceptives into the public health system. This is a retrograde and unfortunate decision which is sought to be adopted despite the consistent objections that have been raised by the organizations working closely with women’s rights and women’s health issues, over a long period of time.

  • On The Priyadarshini Mattoo Verdict
    07 Oct 2010

AIDWA expresses concern over the Supreme Court verdict commuting the death sentence of Santosh Singh to life sentence in the Priyadarshini Mattoo rape and murder case, while upholding that the accused is guilty of the crime. The Division Bench has cited mitigating circumstances which include the young age of the accused at the time of the murder, and his having married and being the father of a child after his acquittal by the lower Court in 1999.
